Am I Ready?

So, this has been the question that's on my mind today. I reconnected with Angela over at Nine More Months today on Twitter and found out that she's one of the current Mamavation Mamas at I'm so excited for her but it sure got me thinking. To be a part of that site, you have to be super serious about weight loss. I skimmed the site and became totally overwhelmed. She suggested I just watch their Twitter feed and I have been doing that and I think it's great how those ladies are supporting each other.

But, am I ready? Am I ready to jump into those kind of changes? Would I even know how? Or would they accept me if I'm babystepping my way to better habits? Am I only babystepping this slow because I'm afraid that if I try to go all out and I fail that I'll never try again?

I know that I need to feel as if I'm not in this battle/journey alone and maybe this group of wonderful ladies could help with that side of things. I also know that part of my problem is that I'm letting my fear get in the way of what I need to be doing. I've been a bit down at times this week and that always leads to me looking for a snack and there wasn't really anything healthy in the house.  Then again, what counts as a healthy snack? I really don't know. I want to provide healthy snacks for the boys and for myself, but I really don't know what that includes.

Maybe that's another area that I can start working on. I'm still working on my water intake. I haven't mastered getting in my 4 glasses every day but I am averaging at least 2-3 every day. I'm proud of me for that. Now, I need to figure out if I can get past my fears and jump into these changes with everything I have.

Today's Water Intake: 2 glasses

Angela @ Nine More Months

Okay, so first of all I want to say that you don't have to be "super serious" to join Mamavation. You just have to want to make healthy changes. Mamavation is about supporting each other and making healthy habits that we can pass on to our families as well.

It's all about baby steps.

When I first joined the Mamavation Sistahood I was 212 pounds, and miserable. I had tried to lose weight and failed many times. I had almost always done it alone. I even tried starting a weight loss blog with friends and that never went very far.

A few months after joining the Sistahood I fell off the wagon. After losing some weight, I stopped posting for a while and gained it all back. When I started posting again no one asked questions. It was almost like I hadn't been gone.

I started small, and you can too. First I concentrated on getting enough water each day. I struggled and struggled to get 8 to 10 glasses a day. Now I drink well over 100oz without even having to think about it. Then I tried to concentrate on eating breakfast every day. It took me a while, but now I make sure to eat something healthy every single morning. Next I started really tracking my food, making sure I was eating a balanced diet. Then I quit drinking soda! Now I'm a Mamavation Mom, and I'm exercising twice a day and loving it.

My point is, you SHOULD start with baby steps. That's the best way to set yourself up to succeed. Take it one goal at a time and you won't get frustrated or overwhelmed.

I hope you'll keep posting and joining in the Mamavation conversations on Twitter. You can do this, Katie!

Like Angela said, "You can do this, Katie!" I totally agree! You have what it takes and most importantly, you have the desire. That's the first real step. You want this. You want this for you, you want this for your boys, you want this!

I would be willing to be a contributor here on the blog. I love the focus you have right now on drinking water. It is so good for you. It helps flush your system out plus it isn't a bunch of empty calories either. Keep up with the water. Set small goals. Try to get to your four glasses a day, then once you are hitting that consistently, jump it up one more glass or add in some other goal. Don't try to do it all at once. Just like organizing, if you try to do it all at once, you will get overwhelmed and that's not good. Just approach it the same way. Identify an area to change, make those changes, keep those changes, look for another area and repeat.

With all that being said, I wanted to tell you - I bought the Jillian Michaels 30-day shred DVD at Target earlier this week. I came across the first workout on the exercisetv on demand channel and liked her style of coaching and so I decided to try it out. All it takes is the DVD and some hand weights (though a couple of cans of veggies would work too, I bet!) I have watched the workout probably four times so far. I have yet to participate in it, but plan to start. I'm just getting myself prepped for it mentally.

Anyhow, I'm with you. And I am ready for the accountability for getting healthier! I will join you in the water intake goals. I love water so it's not such a big deal for me and I drink a TON of it at work, but on the days that I don't work, I really struggle to get enough water on board.

So far today, I have had no water yet (it's only 3:30 am though and I don't think I have actually drank ANYTHING yet today.) But I'll check in with you as much as I can and support you on the water journey and with the other goals that you set! Good luck to you my friend! You will do it and you will do it well! :)

Hey there!! We're all in different places in the group. Everyone has their struggles, whether it's being overweight or having an eating disorder or having self-esteem issues.

There have definitely been people who have joined and have taken baby steps. There's no pressure. You do what you can and we all support you! Win-win!

Hope to see you around the mamavation hashtag!!

Take care
